Job Overview
The National Prosecuting Authority is looking for an experienced legal professional to join its National Prosecutions Services division. This senior leadership position requires extensive experience in criminal and civil litigation, with a strong background in prosecutorial work and commercial crime matters.
The successful candidate will oversee complex legal matters, provide strategic leadership, and work closely with stakeholders in the criminal justice system.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- An LLB degree or an appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors.
- At least 10 years of post-qualification experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
- Right of appearance as contemplated in Section 25(2) of the NPA Act.
- Strong legal drafting and advocacy skills.
- Experience in commercial crimes, tax-related offences, fraud, and financial investigations.
- Knowledge of criminal procedure and financial accounting principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literacy.
- A valid South African driver’s licence.
Admission as an Attorney or Advocate will be considered an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Manage and supervise prosecutors and advocates.
- Investigate and prosecute criminal matters.
- Provide legal guidance during investigations.
- Prepare court documents, including charge sheets and indictments.
- Represent the State in court proceedings.
- Develop strategic plans for the division.
- Monitor staff performance and provide mentorship.
- Work closely with SARS officials and other stakeholders.
- Promote professional standards and effective service delivery.
