Hiring: Stores Assistant at Connecting Africa – Roodepoort Logistics

Connecting Africa is expanding and looking for a dedicated Stores Assistant to join our Logistics team in Roodepoort!

Position Overview

The Stores Assistant is responsible for the effective, accurate and compliant management of all inventory, warehouse operations and related administrative functions at the Roodepoort branch.

The role is critical in safeguarding company assets, maintaining sound internal controls, ensuring accurate stock reporting, and supporting operational efficiency in line with Universal Satellite Technologies’ governance framework and the principles of King IV™, particularly those relating to ethical leadership, accountability, risk management and control.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory & Asset Control

  • Receive, inspect and verify incoming stock against purchase orders and delivery notes.
  • Ensure accurate capturing of all stock movements (receipts, issues, returns, transfers).
  • Maintain accurate real-time inventory records.
  • Conduct regular stock counts (cycle counts and full stock takes).
  • Reconcile stock discrepancies and report variances timeously.
  • Safeguard inventory against theft, damage, obsolescence or misallocation.
  • Ensure proper labelling, storage and handling of ICT equipment and components.

Governance & Internal Control

  • Ensure strict adherence to company internal controls and approval processes.
  • Maintain proper segregation of duties and document control.
  • Ensure all stock transactions are supported by valid, authorised documentation.
  • Prepare stock reports for Branch Management and Finance.
  • Assist in internal and external audits relating to inventory.
  • Immediately escalate any irregularities, discrepancies or control weaknesses.

Operational Support

  • Coordinate effectively with Technicians, Project Managers, Administration and Procurement.
  • Prepare and issue equipment for project deployments.
  • Manage returns from field technicians and verify completeness and condition.
  • Assist with logistics and deliveries when required (valid driver’s licence essential).

Reporting & Administration

  • Maintain accurate data capturing (high accuracy requirement).
  • Generate stock movement reports and inventory summaries.
  • Ensure documentation is filed and retained according to company policy.
  • Provide monthly stock status reports to management.

Compliance & Ethical Conduct

  • Uphold the company’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, including Companies Act, Tax and VAT regulations (where applicable to inventory records) and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Demonstrate honesty and integrity at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company information.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Additional warehouse, stock control or administrative qualifications advantageous.
  • Proven experience in merchandising, warehousing, or stock control.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
  • Strong data capturing and administrative accuracy.
  • Good understanding of internal processes and reporting structures.
  • No previous criminal record (clear background check required).
  • Ability to work under pressure and within a team.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Business acumen and understanding of cost control principles.
  • Technical knowledge in ICT equipment will be advantageous.
