Actuarial, Risk & Compliance Analyst – Tropical Reinsurance Company

What You Will Do
Actuarial
- Analyse the company’s underwriting data using statistical and analytical tools to identify patterns, anomalies and KPIs, and present findings and recommendations to senior management.
- Coordinate the compilation of data and statistics required for annual actuarial valuations, other statutory actuarial requests from regulators and IFRS 17 reporting.
Risk Management
- Maintain the enterprise risk management framework risk registers, risk appetite statement and monitoring processes and embed risk ownership across business units.
- Run solvency and capital models report to the MD quarterly; prepare ORSA data inputs and the report for MD and board to review ahead of IPEC submission.
- Maintain the counterparty credit risk register for cedants and retrocessionaires; monitor the investment portfolio against board limits with monthly exception reports.
- Design and run stress testing and scenario analyses; track emerging risks and review new business and products, escalating material concerns with the MD.
- Maintain and test the business continuity plan; oversee cyber and technology risk; prepare risk committee papers and follow up actions to completion.
Compliance
- Maintain the compliance register, mapping every obligation under the Insurance Act, and other IPEC directives to an owner and monitoring schedule.
- Monitor board composition and director independence; administer conflict-of-interest declarations; track shareholding changes and cross-holding exposures against the required threshold.
- Oversee AML/KYC compliance; manage the regulatory reporting calendar (actuarial function report, SFCR, RSR, quarterly templates, audited financials) and external auditor rotation.
- Review contracts and marketing materials pre-finalisation; maintain the regulatory change log, oversee outsourcing arrangements against regulatory standards.
- Manage regulatory breach incidents root cause, remediation and any IPEC disclosure and maintain cedant and policyholder disclosure records.
Governance and Regulatory Relationship
- Maintain the three-lines-of-defence structure, equipping Line 1 with tools and training and producing substantive Line 2 oversight reports.
- Coordinate internal audit coverage and the triennial external review; maintain the policy library; brief the MD and board at least quarterly; deliver annual staff training.
- Serve as primary IPEC contact managing examinations end to end, keeping examination-ready records and representing the company at industry meetings.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- Degree in Risk Management or Actuarial Science.
- 3+ years in a risk, compliance or actuarial role in financial services.
- Self-directed, with strong analytical skills and clear written and verbal communication.
- Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint, plus Python or R.
You’ll Stand Out If You Also Have
- FRM, IiOA, ACII, CMIRM or equivalent in progress or recently completed.
- Insurance or Reinsurance experience; familiarity with Zimbabwe’s regulatory framework and IPEC.
- Exposure to a risk-based capital regime (e.g. ZICARP).
- Experience implementing or strengthening an ERM or compliance framework.
